New fridge on the way

Wednesday morning, Sister Balzotti called me all in a panic from the mission office because her computer's desktop had disappeared! She had no idea what to do. After a quick trip to Conad for some fresh bread and produce, I drove over to see what the deal was. For the first time ever, I arrived there without the help of a GPS device, so I'm getting comfortable with that drive too, though I'm not sure I could make it back home unassisted yet.

Anyway, turns out that she had inadvertently put Windows 10 into "tablet mode" -- the mode that made Windows 8 such a flop. I diagnosed the problem in about two minutes and had her computer back the way she liked it. She turned to her husband sitting right next to her and asked, "is it ok if I give him a kiss on the lips?" She didn't do it of course, but it shows how desperate she was at the thought of losing her configuration and files. I was then able to help Anziano Balzotti with some Microsoft Word formatting issues.

From there I headed to the mall to order the fridge at Mediaworld. Anziano Balzotti had given us the official approval to order it. The clerk at the store looked up the item and said it was a great deal, but that it was only available online. The brand is Beko, which is from Turkey and is the second highest selling  appliance brand in Europe. After I got home, I ordered it using the mission credit card, just under 400 euros. It should arrive sometime next week. We paid a bit extra to have them deliver and install it and take the old one away. There are stairs involved in getting to the elevator (as is quite typical in Italy), and I have been known to throw out my back, so we aren't taking that chance!

At the mall I also bought a few things at Auchan, and then went to Ikea to buy some pillows and pillowcases for the Ladispoli Anziani. At Zone Conference this Friday we'll deliver them a number of new items and become their favorite senior couple 😀. My mission credit card at work again.

Next I started to drive down to Metro for some food items, mostly for Institute next week, but half way down the freeway I realized that my wife had the membership card. Sigh. She stayed at home to work on her Institute lesson for Thursday night, and we both completely forgot to do the exchange. We'll probably go on Saturday instead at this point. So I asked Sister Balzotti if she would get me an extra Metro card sometime -- she owes me one! I had a little bit of time to prepare for my Friday lessons, but there's still work to do.

In the evening we went down to the Institute for the Wednesday evening activity of the week, splits with the missionaries. Matteo and Ludo came down dressed up for the gig and went out for the evening with Anziani Waddell and Osmond:
Matteo is expecting his mission call any day. Meanwhile, some of us stayed around and wrote emails to some missionaries who are out serving from Rome in various places around the world.
After that we had four games of Uno, of which my wife won three, followed by refreshments, of course!
It was a very enjoyable evening. For the first few months we took Wednesdays off, but now it's good for us to be busy during those evenings at the Institute.
