On Monday my wife was still too sick with her cold to leave the apartment. She needed lots of rest, so I went alone to the Institute for the day, which is the first (and hopefully last) time for that. There was a bunch of stuff that we had accumulated over the holidays to take to the Institute, of which I was able to carry some but not all. The rest will wait for Tuesday. The weather was delightful, very warm and partly sunny.
In the morning I walked down to Conad to buy food for ourselves and for Taco Tuesday. Our fridge here is almost full, so I took the Institute food to the fridge there. It seems that Monday was still sort of a holiday. There was very little traffic on the roads either way, and nobody showed up at the campus until about 6pm. The universities here are now in the exam period, which goes on for about six weeks after classes ended in December. Most of their exams are oral, not written, so it takes longer. It's very normal for them but seems unusual to us.
Anyway, I had plenty of time to work on my upcoming lessons, printing out all the chapters from manuals on our nice color laser printer and going through the materials. I still need time to finish my prep, but at least I have a rough grasp on my lessons. I really enjoy preparing lessons and talks, as it gives me time to meditate on the scriptures and spiritual things.
In the afternoon I also configured my new laptop for the WiFi and the printers/scanners at the campus. It had been a while since I installed drivers for the Oki color laser, which is a bit arcane because it's old, so I had to figure that all out again. This time I wrote up the procedure for future use.
Only Jayno showed up for FHE. Not sure why -- we've had tiny groups before, but never this small. I suspect that it's because the holidays still aren't quite over. So after waiting for a while, we decided not to have a one-on-one lesson (I've done it before, but not this time), so I'm all set for FHE next week 😊. However, we did decide to enjoy together some of the dessert cookies that I had bought for the event!
I was able to leave a bit early and get home to my wife. She says she's getting slowly better, but slow seems to be the operative word. Here's hoping that her cold doesn't make its way over to me.
