P-day shopping

Today we stayed at home all morning, getting caught up on some  things. It was good to have some down time after a busy week. I tried to recover the data from Ugo's USB hard drive, but it's almost dead. It'll take me a while longer to even try to recover it, but it may not work. Bummer. The weather was quite pleasant: not much sun, and a tad of rain, but warmer than it has been.

I finished scheduling our five apartment inspections in the next two weeks, and we also hooked up the gas detector in the sisters' apartment below us. The church makes sure that each apartment has a gas, fire, and carbon monoxide detector, which the missionaries are supposed to test every month. That's one thing we check in our inspections. The apartment below didn't have a long enough AC power cord to run the gas detector, so we found a compatible extension cord (there are too many types of plugs here for that to be simple!) in our apartment which happened to be long enough to work.

In the afternoon and evening, we went out shopping at Auchan, Metro, and then Ikea. Most of the stuff was for us, either food or things for the apartment, but a bunch is also for the Institute. Our fridge is full. At Ikea I bought a new office chair; my wife doesn't have one, and mine is too small for me (but great for her), so we'll kill two birds with one purchase. We also went to Leroy Merlin for the first time; it's right next to Ikea and is basically like Home Depot. Though we didn't buy anything there tonight, we will definitely go back. I was able to drive to and from all these places without using our GPS, so we are getting pretty comfortable with our usual places.

As on every Saturday for decades, I spoke with my mom on the phone for a while. My sister Colleen is also in town there, so it was good to chat with her.

Of course it's fast Sunday tomorrow, effectively our first one here in Italy since we forgot last month.Tonight I'm working on my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow morning, D&C lesson #40 on the joy of temple and family history work, something we happen to know a bit about. The lesson in the manual was written almost twenty years ago, and family history has changed (just a little bit!) since then, so I'm kinda rolling my own lesson to a large extent. Teaching always helps me reflect and search out the spirit, which is why I love it so much.
