Sister N'zoungani, one of the young sisters, got interested in knitting recently. Sister Sprague, a senior missionary in our ward, taught her to knit and she really took off! I've never seen a new knitter with such even tension and no dropped stitches. She loves it! When she saw the sweater I was wearing that I made, she started asking me questions, too. Then I brought her some yarn and the short circulars we use to knit hats. In a week, she finished it and gave it to her companion. Each time I see her, I teach her another quick tip. Helen Hosmer's technique is spreading around the world!
Due to transfers, she spent the night with the Rome 1 sisters, and now both of them want to learn to make hats! I ordered the short circulars from England and we'll get together on their pday for a quick lesson.
There's a huge yarn stall at the local open market on Tuesdays. I got some yarn for the sisters at a very good price, all Italian made.
I also got some for me, since it was fuschia, my favorite color. The stall owner was wearing this cowl, made of the same yarn I got. It's soft and squishy and will be a fun, quick knit.
Sister N'zoungani very enthusiastically told me how much she likes old things like knitting and that her best friend is 60 years old. Usually people just tell me I'm wise :)
