After the meeting, we had to leave fairly soon, but first Dee got the Anziani to move a big cabinet from the huge back hall into the temporary Primary room. That will make life easier for Primary during the building remodel. We had brought the linens for the apartment of the Sorelle and planned to take two of them home with us to deliver the stuff on the way into the Institute. However, we never explained that to anyone. Two them already had an appointment, so it would be Sorelle Muce and Ashton, but the former received a phone call that went on and on. Finally we told them that we had to go right then, but the call didn't end. Anziano Sanchez came up with the brilliant plan to just leave the bags of linens at the church. Turns out that she was on the phone with President Pickerd, discussing the fact that the Sorelle are about to get a mission car. We didn't know who it was, or we might have been more patient! The car will make their life much easier with the Open House going on, where they are helping out. Anyway, it all worked out in the end.
We shopped at Lidl on the way, getting a bunch of stuff for both home and the campus. It was raining hard on and off all day, but we made it safely and on time to the Institute. Ugo and Ettore showed up to finish sprinkling chocolate powder on the tiramisu and take it to their meeting: their boss Christian (from Paris) is about to retire.
Somehow in last week's transfer, the Ganziani managed to lose a key to the downstairs door. Dee had given them her copy, so she headed out to make a new copy for herself, not realizing that she already had a duplicate. She also needed to make a bunch of copies of a cabinet key for the Primary presidency, so the trip was worth it anyway. Our nearby hardware store moved a block closer to us, in a nicer and larger location. Dee gave them a temple Open House card joking that if they didn't go see it now, the only way later would be to get baptized; everyone laughed.
The hardware store has gorgeous brick arches, and some fun details.

About 25 kids had signed up to go to the 7pm tour at the Open House, and most of them made it, on time even! The rain was absolutely pouring as people arrived, and it took us awhile to gather in the right spot for the start of our tour, which was led by two of our GANS girls, Veronica and Eleonora. Josephine, a study abroad student here from St Johns University in New York, came along with Dee on the subway and bus. She has not been participating in church for some time, but decided she wanted to meet some local members and was warmly welcomed by the group. A friend of her family from California had put us in touch with her. She was wearing a light rain coat and tights, so she was freezing, but she never complained. Dee started to translate for her, but it was hard to hear, so Noemi stepped in and did a great job.
Alessio was the first to arrive at the campus. I told him this means he's not really Italian, because it is so out of character to be on time here. He joked that not only is it rare for an Italian, but he's a southerner to boot. He loves to be kidded. Our little group ended up being Alessio, Josephine, the two Ganziani Rouse and Faletti, and me. We went by Metro and bus. The bus driver told us he's going to the Temple, too. The view of the Temple lit up at night was beautiful, breathtaking, memorable. I'm so glad we went!

Dee got permission from President Pickerd, who was there with his wife, to drive Josephine back to her dorm downtown. Usually we are not allowed to drive members anywhere. She is a very sharp girl, at SJU on academic and dance scholarships. She will be in Rome for 6 weeks, then similar stints in Ireland and Paris. We invited her to other Institute activities and she said she would come. After all that, we ended up at home about the usual time.
Rhenald started the tour with us, but since he gets up at 3am for his job, he had to leave. It's so great that Rhenald has a real job now, with a real paycheck. Jhamil had a great job for awhile, but now apparently he is working without pay. Crazy situation.
Just before we left for the Temple, the ZLs Waddell and Wijesundera showed up to teach a lesson. I decided to loan them the keys that had just been turned in by Francesco Marataro's father, so it all worked out.
On our way to the Temple, it also rained and hailed! The Temple has loaner umbrellas--white, of course.๐
