New x-rays

Monday morning we left just after 9am to get an x-ray downtown. Traffic was decent, and we got there early. Unlike last time, we got right in and were done with the x-ray quickly, in plenty of time for the doctor appointment, with the office just down the street. We were happy to find out that the clinic with the radiology lab had a handicapped ramp around back, which we used, along with the elevator.
Waiting for the x-ray
Because we were done so early, we ended up waiting almost an hour in the doctor's office before seeing her, and there was no AC in the waiting room, which didn't make any points with me. Finally, only a few minutes after our scheduled appointment time, Dr. Giorgini (an American married to an Italian) brought us in. She said that the bone has been healing, better than she expected, so I can start putting 20% weight on my foot using crutches, starting an hour per day and working up to getting rid of the crutches in under two weeks. The weight bearing will help the bone to calcify, as long as I don't do too much. I have no pain now, but she said as I walk on it, it might be painful, which will let me know when to stop. I will stay in the big boot for the next ten days or so, and then transition to a brace that I can use with a shoe. She believes that the magnetic therapy machine has been a big help in my quick healing, so she wants me to keep using it for another month.  Doug will still be carrying everything for another couple of weeks, and boy, is he looking forward to a chance to share that task! He's a little burnt out from all he has had to do and how long it takes to do it. I keep telling him he's experiencing what it was like for me with little kids, except that I don't lay down and have a tantrum in the middle of it all and I don't randomly run out into traffic or other "cute" things little ones do.

At first, I thought the doctor told me to walk without crutches every day, starting with an hour, but luckily Doug had heard differently so I cleared it up with the doctor and no harm done.

In the afternoon, I finished installing everything on the new desktop computer we built: Microsoft Office 2016, copying files from the old computer, and running two backups of the new system onto two different USB drives. I then removed the old system and put the new one in its place.
I worked on my FHE lesson, which would be about Lorenzo Snow's mission to northern Italy in 1850. There is a great story, fairly well known, about how he healed a boy who was about to die, leading to the chance to teach and convert a number of people. What is not as well known is that, before administering to the boy, he prayed and told God that he would be willing to sacrifice anything to reach these people. It turns out that his wife died later that same month, so the Lord took him up on his offer.

Anziano Canfield found a parking spot and signed up for it, so now he can go get the ZTL pass. The problem is that I do not have any time this week to go with him, since we will have our guests here. The only time I had was Monday afternoon, and he was not available. We will see what happens.

Dee spent much of the afternoon in the kitchen, cooking chocolate chip and butterscotch/walnut cookies. The smell was overwhelmingly wonderful. She used a new recipe, without butter, because Anziano Papritz can't eat dairy. I can't believe how gorgeous and delicious these cookies are, without butter. This is a money saver, too.
For home evening, we had one new visitor, Bako, from Kurdistan. The Ganziani had just spoken with him on the street and invited him. He speaks English ok, as well as Kurdish, some Italian, and Norwegian (from living there four years). The group did a nice job welcoming him, and he took a cookie away afterwards "for a friend" (sure! 😉).

I also used a favorite quote from C.S. Lewis:
Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.
After the lesson and eating lots of cookies, we played a few rounds of Uno. We got home and worked a bit on organizing the guest bedroom, including moving my computer back to the living room. The weather was a few degrees cooler, which was nice, so the AC at home wasn't as much needed anyway. We are very excited to see my sister and Lu on Tuesday.
