Today was a fairly relaxed day, almost all at home except a quick walk to the Chinese store for a few things and a stake priesthood meeting this evening for me. It was great to not have to go anywhere for a change. My wife did a bunch of cleaning around the house, including mopping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms, and she got caught up on some paperwork, such as the report on our apartment inspections from last week.
We set up her new Moto G5 Plus phone, then found that we needed to move the SIM card back to her old Samsung S5 to do a WhatsApp backup before completing the transfer. She should be up and running by tomorrow with the new phone. Assuming it all works well, I'll follow suit and buy the same model so I can get off my old S5, which is running out of steam.
I
also spent time preparing my Sunday School lesson for tomorrow.
Hopefully the language will not be much of an issue, but it's challenging
because a good fraction of the ward is Hispanic or African or Filipino, so Italian isn't their native language either. That means
they should be tolerant of my language challenges 😊. My Italian is pretty
good and I feel comfortable teaching and leading a discussion, but no
one would ever mistake me for a native speaker.
We also continued to rearrange a few things in our apartment, trying to get a setup that works best for us in the different rooms. It keeps getting better, but we're not done. Sometime soon I'll take photos of the apartment to show you how big and wonderful it is.
I drove to priesthood meeting with a couple of the other senior missionaries who live nearby, Elders Paulsen and Balzotti. It was good to visit during the drive, as well as meet more members of the stake. Each counselor in the stake presidency spoke and had good messages. President Rondinelli is a wonderful man and taught about the importance of being equal partners with our wives and always being ready to apologize. There was a great spirit during the meeting, followed by pizza and arancini! Food and the church seem to be tied at the hip here, and I'm not complaining.
